How do we keep our chickens looking nice?

– Clean bedding. Keeping your chicken coop clean is essential for their health. If there is more poop than there is bedding, that’s a recipie for your birds to catch upper respitory among other things. Clean bedding is important. We use a mix of straw and shavings

– Let them free range. Not only will letting your chickens free range produce those deep coloured delicious yolks in your eggs, it’s also good for their health. Happy chickens are healthy chickens.

– We feed table scraps. We give them everything with the exception of avocado and chocolate. They love table scraps. This is how we’ve trained our flock to come back at night. Most of them come back, the growouts are still learning

– Vitamins. We add vitamins to their water at times just to give them an extra boost. We use poultry cell and nutridrench. Poultry cell has to be my favorite out of the three.

These are the vitamins we use

– Regularly check for mites and lice. Your chickens can go down hill fast and start appearing sickly if they have either. It’s very easy to treat and just takes a few minutes to check

– Don’t overcrowd. Overcrowding leads to fighting and feather plucking. Make sure if you have roos that you have the correct hen – roo ratio
