About

Easter Eggers are not recognized as a breed, they are a barnyard mix that has grown popularity. They are best known for their colorful eggs. These chickens are a popular choice for backyard flocks and homesteaders who want various egg colors, as Easter Eggers can lay eggs in shades of blue, green, and even pink. Easter Eggers can vary in appearance, with some having feathered legs or crests on their heads.

Easter Eggers are known as gentle, friendly and loving birds who will often hang out with you and accept gentle pets. They are not shy with humans and really are a family oriented chicken. Size and weight of Easter Eggers can vary , 4 lbs. for hens and 5 lbs. for roosters. Easter Eggers are excellent egg layers, and lay an average of four eggs a week and up to 280 eggs a year. A common misconception of Easter Eggers is that they will lay a multitude of different colored eggs. Whichever color the first egg that your Easter Egger lays is will be the only color they lay.

On average, Easter Eggers live for about 5-8 years. These chickens are able to tolerate the cold well due to their pea comb, so they are great to have if you live in a colder climate. As for broodiness, you’ll find that the Easter Egger rarely goes broody, that’s not to say they won’t ever go broody.
